Gov. Edwards Proclaims November 12-16, 2018 LBF Kids' Chance Awareness Week

November 12-16, 2018, has officially been proclaimed Louisiana Bar Foundation Kids’ Chance Awareness Week by Governor John Bel Edwards. The LBF Kids' Chance Scholarship Program provides scholarships to the children of Louisiana workers who have been killed or permanently and totally disabled in an accident compensable under a state or federal Workers' Compensation Act or law.

  • This year 15 scholarships were given totaling $50,500.

  • Online applications for the 2019-20 school year will be available online December 1, 2018. The deadline to apply is February 18, 2019.
  • You can always be a Kids’ Chance sponsor or make a donation
  • The LBF Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program was started in 2004, and is administered by the LBF and is governed by a committee representing a cross-section of the state’s legal and workers’ compensation communities.
  • Since 2004 the LBF Kids’ Chance program has awarded 290 scholarships totaling $664,100.
  • The first Kids’ Chance program began in Georgia in 1988 and now there are programs in 43 states.
  • Kids’ Chance believes that we can make a significant difference in the lives of all children affected by a workplace injury by helping them pursue and achieve their educational goals.

How can you get involved?

  • Change Collection. Encourage all employees or board members to bring in change all week. Jars with the Kids’ Chance mission on them can be placed around the office for easy access. This can even be made a competition with different departments keeping their own jars. All the change collected can then be donated to Louisiana Bar Foundation Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program.
  • Dress Down Day. Have a casual office day where employees can only participate if they donate to Kids’ Chance.
  • 50/50 Raffle. Hold a 50/50 raffle one day at the office with proceeds going toward Kids’ Chance.
  • Pizza Lunch. Have a pizza lunch day with chips and soda. Employees can participate if they make a donation to Kids’ Chance.
  • Kids’ Chance Info Session. Hold a brief info session to share the Kids’ Chance mission and initiatives with employees. Provide a prize or give-away to those who attend.
  • Press. Share any Kids’ Chance press, written during the week or otherwise, on social media and with Kids’ Chance of America. Tag @KidsChanceInc!

A big thank you to Louisiana Workers' Compensation Corporation for hosting the 15th Annual Kids' Chance Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Louisiana. 

All proceeds go to fund LBF Kids' Chance scholarships.

LBF Awards $50,500 in 2018-19 Kids' Chance Scholarships

The Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) Kids’ Chance Scholarship program is awarding $50,500 in scholarships to 15 students. Scholarships are awarded to dependent children of Louisiana workers killed or permanently and totally disabled in an accident compensable under a state or federal Workers’ Compensation Act or law.

The LBF Kids' Chance Program was started in 2004 and is administered by the LBF and governed by a committee representing a cross-section of the state's legal and workers compensation communities.

Since 2004, the LBF has awarded 290 scholarships totaling $664,100.

Applications for the 2019-20 school will be available on December 1, 2018.
