Scholarships for Children of Injured Workers-Apply Now

Online applications are now open for the The Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program. This scholarship is for dependents of Louisiana Workers’ killed or permanently and totally disabled in a work accident. LBF Kids' Chance Awards $35,000 in Scholarships

The Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) Kids’ Chance Scholarship program is awarding $35,000 in scholarships to seven students in Louisiana for the 2020-21 school year. Scholarships are awarded to dependent children of Louisiana workers killed or permanently and totally disabled in an accident compensable under a state or federal Workers’ Compensation Act or law.

The LBF Kids' Chance Program was started in 2004 and is administered by the LBF and governed by a committee representing a cross-section of the state's legal and workers compensation communities. Since 2004, the LBF has awarded 313 scholarships totaling $754,000.

2020-21 recipients are: Tyler Byrd, Pearl River; Matthew Garrett, Montegut; Mason Graham, Luling; Blake Ledet, Houma; Breanna Leleaux, Lafayette; Hallie Rogers, Patterson; and Derek Trouard, Baton Rouge.

Gov. Edwards Proclaims Kids' Chance Awareness Week

Governor John Bel Edwards has proclaimed November 9-13, 2020 Kids' Chance Awareness Week in the state of Louisiana. Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) President Skip Philips is holding the official proclamation.

Every year the entire Kids’ Chance community (now in 48 states) dedicates one special week to raising awareness of Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program nationwide. The LBF Kids’ Chance committee will send care packages to our current Kids’ Chance scholarship recipients and work to raise awareness of Kids’ Chance in Louisiana.

You can help with Kids’ Chance Awareness Week this year-

  • You can host a “Dress Down for Kids’ Chance Day,” with donors getting to wear jeans to work for the day.
  • Host a “Pizza Party for Kids’ Chance,” letting donors have a fun pizza party at work while sharing Kids’ Chance information with them.
  • Become a sponsor or make a one time donation 

The LBF Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program is for dependents of Louisiana Workers’ killed or permanently and totally disabled in a work accident. Applications for the 2021-22 academic year will be available online December 1, 2020.

Apply now thru February 17, 2020-The LBF Kids' Chance Scholarship program provides scholarships to the children of Louisiana workers who have been killed or permanently and totally disabled in an accident compensable under a state or federal Workers' Compensation Act or law.

Basic Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a dependent of a worker killed or permanently and totally disabled in an accident compensable under a state or federal Worker's Compensation Act or law.
  • Must be a Louisiana resident between the ages of 16 and 25.
  • Must maintain a "C" average or higher.
  • Must demonstrate substantial financial need.
  • Must be pursuing a primary college or university degree (bachelor's or associate's) or vocational education and training (certificate or license) from an accredited Louisiana (*) university, community, technical or vocational college and/or state approved proprietary school.
    *An exception may be made for attendance at an accredited out of state institution for extraordinary reasons.
